Bike Trouble

On November 21 I was riding over Saddle Road on my way to Kona when I lost control of my motorcycle and crashed heavily. I was airlifted by helicopter to North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea where I was treated for a concussion, a laceration on my head, and various scrapes and bruises. The impact knocked me senseless and I have no memory of anything immediately after the crash until I woke up in the hospital bed 45 minutes later. My x-rays came back negative for broken bones and a CT scan showed no permanent head trauma and I was released after a few hours. The doctor commented that I seemed to be in pretty good shape considering the damage to my helmet and circumstances of the accident.

All in all I am alive, just a bit bruised and scratched up, my helmet is trashed and the face shield was ripped away, had I not been wearing it I would have certainly been killed; I haven't seen my bike yet, as its still in the tow yard, but I can imagine it's in bad shape.

Word travels fast so I just wanted to set the record straight, thanks everyone for your emails and calls. I'm doing fine, just resting up for a few days. Back on the air soon...

Home

After many flights, and many layovers, I am home from China. To say it was an amazing experience would be an understatement, to say it was life changing would be cliché but closer to the truth.

It was more than China, more than the games, more than the culture or the food, and more than the sum of its parts. It was personal. Its amazing what a few days alone on a distant continent can do to you; strip away the cell phone, perpetual email access, TV, radio, friends, family, the comfort of your own bed, and your perspective on things will change greatly.

After it was all done, I shot about 5 1/2 hours of tape, and took over 200 pictures, the pictures will be up soon, and the video will start to trickle in once I can go through it all. Thank you everyone who checked out the photoblog, and thanks to TripFilms for their financial support.

Still Kicking

Hey Gang, I'm still here. I've received a few emails asking when my next video will be, honestly I'm not sure, I have some footage laying around that I may try and cut into an episode but don't hold your breath; I've been very busy with work and personal things over the past month or so (nothing bad, all very good). I have ideas lined up and once I get a few weeks free I'll be out there  shooting more video. I don't want to spoil the surprise but I have really cool things planned that I'm hoping will plan out. Stay Tuned.

Meeting the Mayor

My work for KHHB has been interesting so far, I've been traveling to places I wouldn't normally go and meeting quite a few people around town. The paperwork is in and processing for me to get a real-life, honest-to-goodness press pass. My imagination is reeling with ways to use it and get into all sorts of places to shoot some pretty neat video. We'll see how that goes, I'm also accepting suggestions for things people would like to see. Feel free to leave a comment here or send me an email directly @ dustrotter@gmail.com.
